Today (16th June 2023) is World Refill Day!
Do you refill?
As the owners of a zero waste shop, we're always willing to chat to folk about what they can do to help mitigate the tsunami of plastic waste that is polluting the oceans, waterways and landscapes of our beautiful world.
It's a sad fact that less than 10% of the plastic waste that we so diligently put into our recycling actually gets recycled. Most of it ends up in landfill.
There are currently around 50 million adults in the UK. If every one of those adults refilled just one bottle a week, that would save 50 million plastic bottles every week from swimming alongside the fish in our oceans. Multiply that up to an annual figure and that would mean over 2,600,000,000 (2.6 billion) plastic bottles saved from landfill. That's a lot of zeros!! And that's just based on UK adults reusing 1 bottle a week; imagine how many the whole world could reuse!
If you've been thinking about refilling, but haven't quite got round to it, why not pop in to see us and chat about what we can refill and how you can do it!
It's World Refill Day - why not pledge to refill one bottle every week from today onwards and do your bit to stem the tide of plastic pollution and help to make our planet better!
